Choice of a plot is more important than the construction of the building. It is wise to choose a plot having North East road and avoid a plot having South West road. The Plot and the building should be square or rectangle in shape. There should not be any cut or extension. Construction of building should be towards the South West corner of the plot as it would leave more space on the North and the East.

Andal Vastu Rules
According to Andal Vastu, there are six important rules to be followed to have a better life. They are :-Plot and building should be square or rectangle in shape and also there should not be any cut or extension in the plot or building.
The level of South West portion should be comparatively higher and the North East portion should be lower.
The spacing area of the East must be greater than the West and the spacing area of the North must be greater than the South.
The Main entrance should be North East east or North East north or South East east or North West west.
The Interior staircase must be South center or West center and the Exterior staircase must either be on the South East east or South East south or North West west.
The path hitting the plot or building should be on the positive direction.
Residential Vastu
The basic guidelines of Andal Vastu for residential buildings are :-Choice of a plot is more important than the construction of the building.
It is wise to choose a plot having North East road and avoid a plot having South West road.

The North East portion should be comparatively lower than the ground level and the South West portion should be higher.
The Main gate and the Main entrance should be on the positive direction.
Windows on the North and on the East walls are mandatory.
The Ceiling level should be even.
The Septic tank and the toilet must be on the North West corner.
Well, bore -well and sump should be on the North East portion.
Overhead tank and heavy weighted material should be on the South West portion.
Pooja room should be located on the South East or North West portion.
Kitchen should be on the South East portion and alternatively, on the North West portion.
It is mandatory to construct the bedroom on the South West portion.

According to Andal Vastu :-
Pooja room should be placed in the South East or North West portion of the house.
The pooja room must not be located on the North East or on the South West portion and in
The Bramasthanam of the house, strictly.
Pooja room should be set in a room that faces the East.
A separate room for pooja should be avoided.
The pooja room should be set up in such a way that no one stands or walks above the pooja room. For instance, if the pooja room is in the ground floor, you should not walk above it on the first floor, because it is like stepping on god.
Thus, it is good to have a niche on the wall i.e engrave/carve some space in the wall and construct a shelf in the carved area to use for pooja.
Idol worship should not be done in the pooja room at home and limited number of photographs is ideal.

As per Andal Vastu, a living room should be constructed following these guidelines :-
Living room should be constructed on the North East portion of the house.
Living room must have windows on the North and the East direction, i.e., North window should be close to the East wall and the East window should be close to the North wall.
White color paint should be used for the living room.
Weightless sofas and chairs are preferable in the living room and those should be placed on the South West corner of the living area.
Shelf and loft must be on the South and the West wall.
Loft on the South wall should not touch the East wall. Likewise, loft on the West wall should not touch the North wall.
Construction of toilet on the North East portion of the living room should be avoided.
Bright white color lamp should illuminate the living room.
No sit-out in the North East portion of the house.
Kitchen is the place for health!
According to Andal Vastu, kitchen should be constructed with the following guidelines :-
The best place to have the kitchen is on the South east portion of the house.
Alternatively, North West portion of the house can be chosen to locate the kitchen.
Cooking should be done only by facing the East direction.
It is mandatory to have a window in the kitchen and it should be on the East direction touching the North wall and on the South direction touching the East wall. The Exhaust fan can be fixed on the South wall.
The Sink must be kept on the North East corner of the kitchen.
Loft and shelf should be on the South and the West wall.
Arch entrance in between the kitchen and the dining hall should be avoided.
It is advisable not to locate the toilet near the kitchen.

According to Andal Vastu, to possess best bedroom, following steps should be followed :-
It is mandatory to construct the bedroom on the South West portion of the house.
It should neither have a low ceiling nor a high ceiling. Ceiling level should be the same.
Shelves should be on the South wall or on the West wall.
No windows on the South West corner of the bedroom.
There should not be any beam crossing over the bed.
Flooring should be on the same level.
Wooden cots and shelves are preferable than iron or steel cots and shelves.
There should not be any opening on the ceiling.
Specifically, the restroom attached to the bedroom should be on the North West portion of the room.
